Solution to Session Timeout Problem

The following is information about the common 'session timeout' problem from Micorosoft, as well as the simple procedures to resolve the problem.

From the Microsoft Support Site:

Problem Description:
This problem can occur if the ASP session is lost or abandoned by your web server, or if there is a problem with your web browser's "cache".  Normally, a session will timeout after approx. 15-30 minutes of inactivity (depending on the Edition). This timeout is "coded" into the Pdshop scripts, so if your sessions are timing out more frequently, there is a problem with your server or your browser.  (HostedSports.com has determined that there is no problem on the server side and that whenever this problem occurs, it's associated with the client browser).

Solution/Workaround:
First, make sure you have 'cookies' enabled in your browser.  ASP web servers use cookies to track user sessions.  The next and most important step in resolving this is to completely clear your web browser's cache, follow your browser's instructions for deleting all "temporary internet files" and "cookies".  After you have cleared your cache of all temporary files and cookies, you should reboot your computer.  95% of the time, this will resolve any issues related to login sessions.

Step by Step Instructions:

To enable cookies:

  1. go to the menu and select Tools > Internet Options

  2. Go to the Privacy tab and then click the Advanced button

  3. Here you will see the cookie settings. Make sure both Override Automatic cookie handling and Third-Party Cookies are checked and that on both sets of Radio Buttons, for First-party Cookies and Solution/Workaround: are set to Accept.

  4. Click OK at both dialogs to close and save settings.

In most cases, this will resolve your problem.  If not, proceed to the next procedure to clear your cache.

To clear your cache:

  1. Go to the menu and select Tools > Internet Options

  2. From the General Folder click the Delete button under Browsing History

  3. From the dialog that appears, click Delete All at the bottom of the page.

  4. *Reboot your system

* Note: You may not need to Re-Boot your system, but try that as a last resort because in some cases, it is necessary.
